How to Create a Torrent File?

You want to share something very large with your friends, need not to worry, you can create a torrent file and send them the .torrent link via email, and they will download the file from your system. Be happy, you can control the anonymous download also, using tracker announce.

It is easy to create a torrent file using UTorrent, BitTorrent, Transmission torrent clients. Here are some simple and easy steps to create a torrent file, just download a torrent client and follow the steps:

Step1: Just open torrent client (here I’m using UTorrent ), and click on File Menu

Step2: Choose the Create New Torrent or the shortcut key is Ctrl+N.

Step3: The Dialog box will punch in, asking to select source file which you want to share. Just type in the name or select the appropriate file from your system, by Add File or Add Directory Button below the textbox.

Step4: If you want to enable tracker functionality, then you can enter the tracker announce URL. There are some free BitTorrent Trackers also available; you can choose any one of them. Some of them are Open Bittorrent, eXTReMe Tracking, Public Bit Torrent, Sumo Torrent, etc.

If you want, you can enter the web seed information. You can also leave both the boxes blank.

Step 5: Don’t forget to check the Start Seeding Checkbox, unless your friends won’t be able to download the file. You can check Private Tracking, if you wish.

Step 6: Now Click Create and Save As button to save the created torrent file. By default it will be saved on your desktop with .torrent extension.

Step 7: Now you can email the link of the .torrent file you just created to your friends so that they can download the file, you want to show them.

Often called Mainline, used for downloading and uploading files on the internet using Bit Torrent protocol written in python. It is a peer-to-peer program developed by BitTorrent,Inc by Bram Cohen.

Unlike Deluge it is now closed source available for Windows and Mac OS. But prior to version 6.0 it was also open source. It allows its users searchable, shareable download content with multiple parallel downloads. It provides user an automatic recovery system for checking whether all data has been handled before shut down or not.

It allows its users to monitor what events are happening at the background with the different tabular, statistical and graphical views.

Deluge Torrent Download Client

Deluge is a rich featured free software torrent client made by Zach Tibbitts, Alon Zakai, Andrew Resch, Damien Churchill and John Garland for Linux, Mac OS and Windows. It was first designed only for GNOME thus named gTorrent, but later due to unavailability of this name, it turned into Deluge. For torrent functionality, it uses libtorrent at backend and written on Python and GTK+. With its very first version, Deluge interface was separated from its core, allowing users to maintain their application anywhere on the web.

Some of its features are light weight, secure, can connect remotely to Deluge Daemon, supports magnet links, proxy and has configurable bandwidth scheduler.

Thunder Networking Technologies has developed Xunlei. They also developed Xunlei Kankan, a video-on-demand website, and other desktop software.

It is licensed as closed source adware, it has banner advertisements, which can removed if you sign in as a user. It is available for Windows operating system.

It is available in Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, English with a language pack.

µTorrent is a closed source program available for free which is used to download torrent. µTorrent is owned by BitTorrent, Inc. And it is 2nd most widely used Torrent downloading client after Xunlei. It is released in 2005 with the aim of consuming minimum system resource with offering rich features like other torrent clients.

In 2011, BitTorrent introduced paid version of µTorrent called “µTorrent Plus”. Which will have extra features like integrated file conversion, anti-virus and a built in media player.
